A Present For The Person Who Has Everything
Buying a special present for that special person can be a real problem. Maybe you already possess all the material things you both need. It's also quite difficult to come up with an idea for something that is truly unique. Yes, you can have something engraved or embroidered, but that only adds a limited element of uniqueness to your gift.
If you really want to show you have put a lot of thought and effort into pleasing the one you love it is much better to have something utterly unique created for them. The options available range from commissioning a set of cufflinks right up to building them a new home. Another alternative would be a portrait. Portraits can capture the essence of a person and their character at a given point in their life and create a priceless heirloom for future generations. Again you may already have done this and many of your friends may likewise have portraits of themselves and family members hanging in their homes. How can you take the portrait that one stage further to make it into something truly special and unlike anything your friends may have? This is where a good fantasy portrait artist can be priceless.
We must all have fantasized about living in other times or even metaphysical realms where the rules are different and we can be our true selves. It could be that we always wanted to meet someone - perhaps a figure who is long deceased of entirely fictional. Ancestry is a very popular theme for fantasy portraits and some individuals have themselves or a loved one pictured in a family group taking in long dead loved ones from the 20th century. You can show someone's entire life from their birth, through school, college, military service, marriage and building a family and successful career to retirement. Their achievements at different points in their life can be depicted. However, you might want to show your loved one with something they particularly love - wolves for example, wild horses or snow leopards. They could have a passion in life, like ornithology, fast cars or gun collecting. Only your own imagination and the skill of your artist set limits on what can be achieved.
It's easy to use a search engine to find a fantasy artist with a portfolio that really inspires you. There are any number of media that can be employed for your fantasy portrait, ranging from graphite, through colored pencils, to watercolors, acrylics and oils. Digital art has opened new vistas not before possible. It is vital that you understand the prerequisites that your artist needs from you and how important it is to build a relationship of trust and respect with them. You are building a relationship that could literally last a lifetime (from my own experience) it is very likely that you will return to have more portraits done, perhaps of other loved ones or of the same one in different scenarios. Receiving such a gift can also be a very emotional experience and not one likely to be replicated in any other way.
You need to take some time out to imagine how your loved one would most love to be depicted. The best way is to take a piece of paper and write it all down - do some rought sketches if you can. The portrait artist you have chosen will take you through the creative process one step at a time, using the notes you produce as a guide. Some artists will insist on sittings, but others can work from good quality photographs of which you should be prepared to supply a dozen or more. Creating your portrait is an iterative process and you will be involved and expected to approve and comment at each stage. Some media simply do not allow major changes late in the production of the piece. With others, changes are possible, but can be time consuming and thus expensive. Good communication makes this highly unlikely to happen. You also need to allow enough time for the portrait to be created and shipped and give thought to how the final article will be framed and where the subject will wish to hang it in their home. Even a small fantasy portrait can be a wonderful addition to a home and could fill an empty spot on a wall very effectively.
You now have lots to think about and doubtless ideas are already forming as to what would make the perfect gift for your partner or loved one. The world of fantasy portraiture awaits you!
