Choose Greece Holidays For Your Next Diving Trip

If you’re a keen scuba diver, you’ll constantly be planning your holidays around where the best diving spots are. Fortunately, with restrictions on diving in Greece being lifted, there are now some fabulous dive sites and exciting wreck dives to be explored not too far from home.

Your ‘diving-crazy’ partner may be able to convince you that your Greece holidays are a chance for some beach time but in reality, they will be plotting their route of the best wreck dive sites in the islands. And you won’t be disappointed, once you discover the quality of the marine life, the ship wrecks, and the water conditions, a combination of which makes for a diver’s ultimate holiday.

One of the most photogenic wrecks in Greece is just off the coast of Kefalonia, and features a sunken German cargo ship from WW2. On average the visibility at this top spot is 30-40 metres and the average sea temperature is 24 degrees making it easy to see why it is a favourite wreck dive amongst many.

Those enjoying Corfu holidays can discover the wreck of HMS Regulus, a British Mine Sweeper that was sunk in 1945. Alternatively head to Kassiopi where there is an ancient Greek or Roman wreck you can explore as well.

The Red Sea has long been recognised for the superb diving conditions that have made Egypt one of the world’s most popular spots for diving holidays. Those who have been visiting the area for a while are now opting for Hurghada holidays where they can expect less tourists and a little bit more peace and quiet. A definite must is the wreck of the SS Thistlegorm, a British merchant ship which sank in the early 1940s and was found by Jacques Cousteau a decade later. Much of the cargo, including guns, motorbikes and airplanes, is still intact. This spot has repeatedly been voted one of the top wreck dive spots in the world.
