If you are preparing a flight to South Africa, you may think to visit Port Elizabeth as some people called it ‘Friendly City’ were some other humorously called as ‘Windy City’. It was founded in 1820 as a British settlement and inhabited by British Settlers, generally to operate as a cushion between the Cape Province and the slightly belligerent Xhosa tribe. It is also known as a sister city to Palm Desert and Jacksonville, which are two American cities.

Port Elizabeth is more of a family oriented city and provides fun and exhilaration for every age group. You will have admittance to a range of water activities, sublime beaches, winding nature trails, cultural heritage spots, wildlife feels, fine dining and many shopping opportunities.

Port Elizabeth’s climate is ranked as the fourth best worldwide for its coastal destinations. Striking beaches outline its coast, and because of the brilliant sea setting and pleasing water temperatures, a wide variety of water activities are offered. You can try out activities like surfing, kite boarding, wind surfing, scuba diving, sea skiing, or jet skiing. If you have a passion for deep sea game fishing then fishing charters can be organized with any of the several skilled skippers in the area. Sea-safaris are also accessible if you want to take pleasure in a sunset cruise, whale watching, or a dolphin experience.

Scuba diving at the Port Elizabeth’s coast areas is very gratifying. You can choose between the shore-entries and boat-dives. If you select to dive from the shore then there are 3 main dive sites, such as Devil’s Reef, Postman’s, and Shark Rock Pier. They are of between 2meter and 8meter deep. If you opt for a boat dive then there are 20 different dive sites, between 6m and 40m depth. Four of them are shipwrecks, 12 are reefs and 1 is a shark-dive. The shark dive site is known as Raggie Sands; and forty Rag Tooth sharks have been said to be spotted there in a single dive. If you don’t know how to dive, but want to learn, then you can opt for the single day courses, and get gear for rent from the local dive operators.

Port Elizabeth has much more to it than just the beaches. To explore the culture and history of the place, head for Bayworld. It is a museum (No. 7 Castle Hill and PE Museum), ocean aquarium and a snake’s park complex located off the Beach Road, Humewood. The special needs people are provided wheelchair access, which is offered in maximum parts within the complex. Shows of dolphins and seals are organized daily and are sure to enthral people of all ages.

There are no less than five golf courses to choose from within the city’s borders, and many more within easy reach just on the outside. These are Port Elizabeth Golf Club, Shark River Golf Club, Walmer Country Club, Wedgewood Park Country Club and Humewood Golf Club. Humewood is one of the top ten golf courses in South Africa. A true seaside links course, Humewood has exposed fairways, steep faced bunkers, fast and strong greens and thick brush roughs. The course is in excellent condition and never disappoints ardent golfers in search of a challenging game.
