I want to learn to scuba dive, I also want my friend to go with me, he says he can't because he's overweight
He has no real medical reason, blood pressure is fine no heart disese, no asthma, sinuses are fine, no problems with his ears etc. He said that he heard heavy people should not SCUBA dive is there any truth to this?
to respond to the first answer, it is not because he is embarassed, this guy used to go to out local water park (before it closed down he'd walk with his back hair all gnarly (sorry for the horrendous image)
I once dove with a woman that weighed about 350-400 pounds. She was a very good, very confident diver. So yes, overweight people can dive. However, if your friend does not want to learn to dive, do not try to pressure him into it. He may have a fear that could be causing his reluctance. Many accidents in diving occur when someone has been pushed into diving by a friend.
